Before the First Fault: Intermediate VFD Training

Awarded for completing the two-day core of Before the First Fault: Intermediate and Advanced VFD Training, a hands-on program from Wayward Leaders LLC delivering 13.5 instructional contact hours. The program runs from commissioning fundamentals through application configuration: motor model creation and identification runs, first rotation, application setup across three load profiles, a group fault-diagnosis simulation worked from captured field trend data, and PID control run hardware-in-the-loop on live ABB ACS380 drives driving real motors. Every student works on live equipment across seven hands-on labs. Learning is measured with a scored baseline assessment and a scored post-course assessment, and the sponsoring organization receives a written competency report. Instruction is delivered by Carl Lee Tolbert, PhD, CMRP, author of Before the First Fault: A Field Guide to VFD Installation and Reliability; each seat includes the book and access to VFD Mentor. Contact hours are computed from a timed course agenda with breaks and meals excluded and are documented on a certificate of completion suitable for continuing education submission, professional engineer PDH self-reporting, and certification renewal programs that accept relevant third-party training.
